Natureculture: exploring the biological, ecological and economic dimensions of the social world
- This event has passed.
This public forum brings together a group of scholars and landscape practitioners whose work troubles separations that are often artificially drawn between ‘nature’ and ‘culture’.
Looking at a diversity of actors, from estrogens and wild animals to water and plant life, these presentations are designed to challenge us to think differently about the complex ‘natureculture’ entanglements that define and shape our lives. A key motivation for the session is to showcase the diverse contribution different social scientists and science practitioners make to understandings of the social world as a complex stage where biological, ecological and economic relations continuously intersect and interact at different scales.
The discussion will provide perspectives on how to better understand and potentially repair some of the environmental problems we face in a time of intensifying climate fluctuations, biodiversity loss and ecosocial inequality.
Confirmed speakers and panellists include:
- Professor Mary Lou Rasmussen (ANU)
- Professor Celia Roberts (ANU)
