Critical Reflection at the Street Level
This evolving presentation explores how critical reflection is central to both social work practice and could become essential in outdoor education and therapy. To be more effective, critical reflection should focus on the street level, working closely with those with the most at stake. As the final presentation in the outdoor therapy series, this presentation will provide an additional closing reflection about Social Sciences Week 2026.
About the Presenters
Josh Heins, BSW (Hons) is a social worker and career outdoor educator. Josh completed his honours thesis with Charles Sturt University, where he explored social work values, skills, and knowledge in relation to outdoor education. Josh is a casual academic with Charles Sturt University and teaches across Social Work Theory and Practice Subjects.
Kat Sharp, MSW, has worked with children, young people and families, facilitated groups, co-led adventure therapy expeditions, dabbled in policy, and supported victims of crime. Kat is a passionate educator, facilitator and explorer. Her record for Australian states/territories with concurrent active working with children’s checks is 4. In her spare time, you can probably find Kat on a bike or in the bush.
Dr Will Dobud is an award-winning researcher and educator recognised for excellence in research, teaching, and crime prevention. Dr Dobud is a Senior Lecturer in Social Work at Charles Sturt University and an invited international speaker who conducts workshops for therapists and families worldwide. Will’s research focuses on improving therapy outcomes for teenagers and promoting safe, ethical practices.
