Amid rising global instability, the threat of nuclear conflict is re-emerging as a central concern for international peace and security. Hosted by the Australian Fulbright Alumni Association (AFAA) and RMIT University, this expert panel will explore today’s most urgent nuclear challenges—from Russia’s nuclear rhetoric in the war in Ukraine, to North Korea’s expanding missile tests, to Iran’s nuclear program. We’ll also examine the weakening of key arms control treaties like New START, nuclear modernization, and the growing risks of miscalculation or nuclear use in regional flashpoints such as South Asia and the Taiwan Strait.

Bringing together scholars and global security sholars, the panel will provide historical context, assess current developments, and discuss the prospects for diplomacy, deterrence, and nonproliferation in a rapidly changing world. Don’t miss this timely conversation on the future of global nuclear stability.
