Watch Climate and Our Communities and join the filmmakers for reflections and discussion on climate action and its community impacts.

This event centres on Climate and Our Communities, a 22-minute documentary co-produced in 2024 by researchers from UNSW Sydney and FGV (Sao Paulo) in 2024. The film follows a group of emerging researchers as they explore how global climate policies and actions are experienced by the communities they call home.

The documentary was screened at the official Australian Pavilion at UN Climate Convention COP30 in Belem, Brazil; and, was featured by a special panel sponsored by the Global Ethics Stocktake Pavilion. It is important to note that the women researchers and filmmakers conducted qualitative research in Broome (Northern Territories), rural Indonesia, and urban and suburban Sao Paulo areas. They come in with extensive experience working in these environments and communities, and with First Nations, women, youth, and climate vulnerable populations.

Following the screening, audience members will have the opportunity to hear from members of the filmmaking team, including Alya Triska Sutrisno, as they reflect on the project one year on. There will also be an opportunity for audience questions and discussion.

Refreshments will be provided.

This event is brought to you by Social Sciences Week 2026. Coordinated by the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia, Social Sciences Week is an annual celebration of the social sciences and their role in addressing today’s most pressing issues.
