Beyond the headlines: Real talk on crime and community

Hooked on true crime podcasts or crime dramas, but wondering how much is actually real? This free, one-hour community event brings together leading criminologists and community safety practitioners to separate fact from fiction – no academic background required.

Set in a relaxed panel format and hosted by Sydney Morning Herald Crime and Justice Reporter Amber Schultz, the discussion will unpack the real science behind crime, justice, and community safety.

Whether you’re a curious community member, a local parent, or a social or community worker, this event offers an accessible and engaging opportunity to explore how the justice system really works beyond what we see in the media.

Open to all community members aged 18 and over. Come with your questions and leave with a clearer picture of crime, justice, and what keeps our communities safe.

Light refreshments will be served from 5:30pm, the discussion will commence at 5:45pm.
