HUMMING INTO 2027: Empowering teachers to strengthen Humanities in their school

This event is aimed at Humanities and Social Science (HASS) educators across Australia, particularly those in secondary schools. Based on my recent book release, Humming Along (Amba Press), I wish to support educators with their upcoming preparation and planning of HASS units and courses for 2027. Term 4 provides the perfect opportunity for Humanities faculties to reflect on and update courses, maybe even try a new approach. This online webinar will provide practical strategies and advice on faculty collaboration, analysing HASS curriculum and assessment data, refreshing new units and ideas, and how best to upskill staff in the various subject disciplines so that every HASS faculty can start strong in 2027. Let’s strengthen social sciences within schools, instilling values within in every Humanities lesson and establishing a sense of wonder in the classroom.

About the presenter:

Katrina Davey is a nationally award-winning educator and curriculum writer with two decades of experience transforming Humanities departments across Australia. Author of Humming Along (Amba Press, 2026) and contributing author to the Oxford Humanities 7-10 textbook series, Katrina believes in the profound responsibility of educators to shape students’ empathy, integrity and capacity to make informed decisions about our world’s future.

Katrina holds a Master of Educational Leadership with Distinction from Charles Sturt University. She is actively involved with teaching associations as a presenter, mentor and resource developer. Through her consultancy work, Katrina helps schools establish engaging Humanities programs and develops transdisciplinary incursions that bring authentic learning challenges to the classroom. A passionate advocate for the teaching profession, she believes wholeheartedly in empowering educators and elevating the status of Humanities education to ensure we are developing the ‘heart’ that makes students truly human.
