Big Data for Social Policy: Developments, Benefits and Risks

Join online for the launch of a new report from the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, along with a moderated panel discussion with three of the reports authors. This session will explore the use of big data and related technologies to social policy in both Australian and international contexts, unpacking some of the successes and failures (think Robodebt), as well as the ethical considerations and other challenges that are increasingly becoming apparent.
Panellists include:
- Professor Lyria Bennet Moses, Professor and Director, Allens Hub for Technology, Law and Innovation, UNSW Sydney
- Professor Janeen Baxter FASSA, Professor at the University of Queensland and Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Children and Families over the Life Course
- Professor Ross Homel AO FASSA, Foundation Professor of Criminology at Griffith University).
